Britain wakes up to a three-week halt to all nonessential activity to fight the spread of coronavirus.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced police have special powers to enforce the new restrictions of people not leaving their homes unless absolutely necessary.

He told the country they must "join together" and adopt new restrictive government measures to "help save thousands of lives".
