The spike protein that allows coronavirus to easily enter human cells might be responsible for an increase in the production of inflammatory cytokines by senescent cells, according to a new study published in Science; the researchers demonstrated that, at least in mice, senescent cell clearance helps mitigate this effect and reduce mortality, and speculate that similar treatments might prove useful in humans. Speaking of humans, vascularized human tissue has been created by two different teams at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine! This achievement earned them a prize that NASA and the Methuselah Foundation put up in 2016. Last but not least, the human genome has finally been fully sequenced, telomere-to telomere!
