#Jericho#SycamoreTree#MountTemptation
Shalom Everyone,
Here is the Part II or the continuation of our tour.
Next, we reached Jericho- our main destination for the day.
First, we visited the Greek Orthodox Monastery where the real Zaccheaus Sycamore Tree can be found.
Zaccheus is one of the most famous and colorful characters in the Gospels, even though he only appears in Luke’s account (19:1-10). In that Gospel, we hear of Yeshua (Jesus) passing through Jericho. Zaccheus lived there, and he was “a chief tax collector and rich.” He was “trying to see who Yeshua (Jesus)was” but was short, so he climbed “a sycamore tree” to see him as he passed by. Yeshua stops and calls him down and invites himself to dinner at Zaccheus’ house—to the dismay of the people of Jericho—and the tax collector converts on the spot.
Next, we see the Mount Temptation and have a Bible related discussion once again.
The Mount of Temptation is believed to be the mountain in the Judean Desert where Yeshua (Jesus) was tempted by the devil for 40 days and 40 nights. The mountain is approximately 1,200 feet high in a location 11km North West of the West Bank town of Jericho. Entry to the top of the mountain is via a 1300m long cable car ride which takes visitors over the top of the remains of the old city of Jericho, where the walls came tumbling down. Recent archaeological digs have uncovered the remains of the ancient city proving the Biblical narrative to be true, yet again!
At the top of the mountain is the Greek Orthodox Monastery (Monastery of the Temptation) which can be accessed by a stone stairway built into the mountainside.
Hope you enjoy watching and you learn something!
With love from Zion, 🇮🇱
Yohanna.
