In English, some of our Special Sounds are spelled the same but sound different, or the Special Sounds are spelled differently but sound the same.

Ex:

"ea" in thread🧵makes the short "e" sound ("a" is silent 🤫)

"ea" in leaf 🌿 makes the long "e" sound ("a" is silent 🤫)

"ea" in steak 🥩 makes the long "a" sound ("e" is silent 🤫)

All of these special sounds are spelled the same way, but make DIFFERENT sounds.
