GLEN OR GLENDA is a 1953 American independent exploitation film also released under alternative titles such as 'I Led Two Lives, He or She?' and 'I Changed My Sex.' directed, written by and starring Ed Wood (credited in his role as "Daniel Davis"), and featuring Wood's then-girlfriend Dolores Fuller and also Bela Lugosi. It was released in April 1953.
The film is a docudrama about cross-dressing and "transvestism" and is also semi-autobiographical. Wood himself was a cross-dresser and the film is a plea for tolerance. It was widely considered one of the worst films ever made upon release, but has since become a cult film due to its low-budget production values, idiosyncratic style, and early cinematic themes of transgender acceptance.
This film was referenced in the movie 'Seed Of Chucky' when Chucky and Tiffany can't decide if they should name their gender-less offspring Glen Or Glenda.
Happy Pride!
This film is in the public domain meaning it has been identified as being free of known restrictions under copyright law, including all related and neighboring rights. You can copy, modify, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking permission. Corporations lobbied Congress to get U.S. copyright laws extended by 20 years, twice! Because of that, it allows published works to be under copyright for almost a century and corporations to squeeze every last ounce of profit from them even long after the profitability has past. It keeps people from enjoying art, which is the purpose of art.
