Who was Stepan Bandera, and why, 60 years after his death, is russia using his name to justify its illegal invasion of Ukraine?
On the one hand, he is accused of being a nazi collaborator, antisemitic & anti-Polish who organised and took part in mass killings. On the other hand, he is considered a Ukrainian hero for his movement against the violent occupation of Ukraine by the Soviet Union. So which was he?
In this video, I summarise many sources from a Ukrainian perspective, focusing not on whether I think he is good or bad, but rather why he is used as the justification for the massacres russia commits in Ukraine.
Please note, these are not my opinions, these are a summary of a variety of Ukrainian perspectives.
