Mixed compilations of the latest tracks these days are just the norm and it’s kind of difficult to remember a time when they weren’t like that - but in the early 90’s rave compilations just weren’t like that. There was a short period where record companies just didn’t get the culture and so just released them the same as all their other compilations with the tracks raw and unmixed.

These albums always seemed like they were missing energy, the long pauses between tracks seem to kill the vibe the track had worked hard to create.They certainly weren’t an accurate representation of the scene because DJs controlled the sound by mixing them together.

Post mortem mixes are where I dig these classic unmixed compilation albums back up, have a rummage around inside and then stitch them back together. No long pauses, no intro’s, no outro’s - just the full hardcore energy these landmarks of classic rave history were created for.
