In this video, we shall highlight era of Seljuks. We shall focus on Seljuk Family Tree by using Family Chart. They are descendants of Oghoz Khan through Kinik of Kinik tribe. In 1037, Tughril Baig, a ,Seljuk Sultan, founded this dynasty and named it after his grandfather name Seljuk as Seljuk dynasty. As he left no apparent heir to the throne, Alp Arslan came into power. After him, Malik shah and his sons were made sultans of this great dynasty. Malik shah's sons failed to uphold it so empire was gradually collapsed. In 1071 at the Battle of Manzikert, the empire was divided into two parts i.e Seljuk of Persia and Seljuk of Rum. Let's take a look at Seljuk of Rum now. After the Battle of Manzikert, Suleiman the first took control of newly conquered Anatolia and declared himself the sultan of Seljuk of Rum empire. These Sultans took part in crusades and defeated them many times. Suleiman the first and his son Kilij Arslan participated in first and second crusades respectively. Kilij Arslan the second defeated them in third crusade fighting along Salahuddin Ayubi. But Kaykaus the first fought along crusades against Salahuddin Ayubi but was defeated badly by Ayubi. Kaykubat the first is considered last Seljuk effective Sultan. Two generations after kaykhusru the first comes a Seljuk princess Halime Hatun who was married to Ertughrul of Ottoman empire.
