Female stress urinary Incontinence (SUI) is a highly-prevalent disease across the world. Prevention after vaginal deliveries, weight loss and pelvic floor exercises will help to prevent or treat this condition in many women. However, many others will elect a surgical intervention.

Options include synthetic mid-urethral slings, Burch colposuspension, pubovaginal autologous slings and bulking agents. The first 2 options provide the highest cure rates. Although safe, mid-urethral slings and Burch colposuspension are not free of complications. Every surgeon treating female SUI should, therefore, be able to recognize and treat the most frequent complications.
