New single Beneath the Chapel from Lenax
“If you are a fan of melodic, old school and symphonic black metal, you should check out this single.” - Occult Black Metal Zine
Lenax is a US based black metal band that blends aggressive and melodic elements of old school black metal with cosmic horror themes. From their self-released 2023 EP Purity, the band has released a symphonic remix of their song Beneath the Chapel. The mid paced and spiritually infused song invites the listener on a journey through familiar themes such as rebellion against religion, revenge, and ultimately self-realization through occult technology.
Based in the Nashville area, not particularly known for birthing extreme metal bands, Lenax enjoys a presence in the underground music scene. Lead singer and primary songwriter Venomous describes his music simply as “Cosmic horror fueled nightmares”, a description that well encompasses their lyrical composition.
“While the lyrics of our songs are fictional, they are inspired by life experiences many of us have had” he says. “In the case of Beneath the Chapel, it is not at all unique to harbor anger towards religious zealots. One of the core ideas of the song, and one that has a real historical precedence, is the fact that many people in the history of the church were also involved in the occult. That is the literal implication of the song title, the hidden blasphemous rites that may be going on right on the holy grounds, often by the same people who condemn humanity for any number of things”.
Keeping with the theme of historical precedence, the bridge section of Beneath the Chapel includes a Hellenic rendition of a second century magical text. The spoken invocation was recorded by Hephaestus, the band’s studio bass player from Greece, who performed on the original recordings of the 2023 release. The musical section during the invocation is a shift in tone highlighting the added string section with a clean guitar part, before shifting back into gear before the final closing of the song.
Venomous adds, “Not only are we immensely happy with the sound and energy on this remix, we will be following this up with an entire remaster of Purity coming soon. Every one of us in this band truly love the music, and we are excited to already be engaged in the writing process for a new full length record.”

Lyrics:
Beneath the Chapel Lyrics
VERSE 1
Betrayed by the lies of the shepherd's fold
All you got was another fucking knife in your back
Now you live for the night in the black and cold
Only one goal, soul ascension
Travel lone to the chapel on the hill side
White steeple, stained glass, sanctuary, mass
Sheep gather giving thanks to a false god
Never knowing that the summoning happens below
CHORUS
Darkness rising when the sun comes down
Cleansing soul and channeling anger
Draw the pentagram, uttering the sound
Let your hate grow when the night comes
Revenge when the sun falls down
Send forth the parasitic spectre
Spill the sacrifice blood on the ground
Let your hate go when the night grows long
VERSE 2
Sights set on the target of the enemy
All they are is another fucking stop in your way
Rip the chord cut the flesh draw the nightside
As your own god, daemonization
Enter in to the ritual chamber
See the dark one's altar carved in the stone
Adepts gathered for the purpose of destruction
Sending legions to battle as the fires arise
CHORUS
Darkness rising when the sun goes down
Cleansing soul and channeling anger
Draw the pentagram, uttering the sound
Let your hate go when the night grows
Revenge when the sun falls down
Send forth the parasitic spector
Spill the sacrifice, blood on the ground
Let your hate go when the night grows long
