Coming 15 July 2018 - the Scafell Skyrace! I ran this in 2017 and absolutely loved this high, scrambly, mountainous course through the Lake District, over England's highest summit.
Excitingly, this race is the UK National Team qualifying race for the Skyrunning World Championships 2018.
The terrain is starts on typical Lake District paths - steep, rocky ascents and descents. There are a couple of scrambling sections around Great Gable and down before Bow Fell, and a very steep grassy climb up to Harrison Stickle from the valley floor food stop behind the Old Dungeon Ghyll. The final rolling hills over Silver Howe and Loughrigg Fell are surrounded by beautiful views of Ambleside and the mountains you've previously been on.
It took me 9.5 hours at a far from peak level of fitness, and I kept stopping to film bits and run past the camera. It's more of a 6-7hour race for the reasonably fit, experienced mountain runner.
40km with 3000m ascent | 15 July 2018 | Ambleside | £80
