Soletanche and BUDOMAL talk about the construction process and implementation challenges.
Soletanche Polska carried out the geotechnical design for the underground parking lot under the soon-to-be-built Kobro Square, as well as the tunnel foundation design, under a contract with the general contractor BUDOLMAL, Mosty - Łódź consortium. As part of the execution work, diaphragm walls were created as the foundation of the tunnel in the form of the outer walls of the structure and the barbs supporting the floor.
Diaphragm walls play a dual role on this facility: excavation shoring, allowing the excavation of the top and down method during the works, and the ultimate walls of the structure.
The task included:
- Slurry walls with elements of reinforced concrete cap and strut, as well as temporary bars serving as a supporting element for the floor during the execution of construction works
- 9,300 m² of slurry walls were constructed
- Maximum depth of the slurry wall sections - 13 m.

Łódź is one of the largest construction sites of recent years. Thanks to investments in infrastructure, the capital of Polish film has a chance to become one of the key transportation hubs in Poland. The underground railroad will improve both long-distance and local traffic.
The city center is also changing. Since 2007, the New Center of Łódź project has been gradually implemented. As part of this investment, the Łódź Fabryczna station has been rebuilt; in a short while, thanks to the construction of the cross-city tunnel, it will turn from an end station into a transfer station. EC1 buildings have been revitalized and modernized, the East-West route has been rebuilt, with the now iconic Centrum tram stop. Now it's time to execute the underground Hasa Street.
The street connects Kilińskiego Street with the Scheibler family roundabout by an underground crossing. In the future, it will give an access to the underground parking lots of the private investments planned in the area and the so-called Kobro Square, the underground of which is to be a 3-story underground parking lot. On the ground level between the planned investments and EC1, a woonerf was created, i.e. a space intended for pedestrian and bicycle traffic. It is to be a place where events for residents and visitors of Łódź will be organized.
