In this episode of Mapping It, we spend a week visiting all the national parks in Utah and even visit the Grand Canyon in Arizona! Spring break in Utah isn’t as warm as we had hoped, but it sure is beautiful!
We start our trip in Las Vegas where we enjoy a delicious breakfast from Eataly before getting on the road. Our first day is spent visiting the Hoover Dam and Valley of Fire State Park.
On our second day, we wake up early and enjoy sunrise at Zion National Park. We do the Riverside Walk to the beginning of the Narrows and then we hike the Canyon Overlook Trail for some stunning views. The second half of the day is spent driving to Bryce Canyon National Park where we enjoy sunset with a view of the hoodoos.
Bryce Canyon National Park is known as an International Dark Sky Park and we wake up several hours before dawn to star gaze and watch the Milky Way. After a quick breakfast, we do a little hiking along the Queen’s Garden Navajo Loop trail and get an up-close view of the hoodoos.
We spend the rest of the morning driving along Scenic Byway 12 and the Burr trail on our way to Capitol Reef National Park, where we stop for snacks at the Gifford House before ending the day at Moab.
Our fourth day is split between Canyonlands and Arches National Parks. We hike to Mesa Arch, check out the Shafer trail and enjoy some incredible scenic vistas in Canyonlands. Then we hike to Delicate Arch and Double Arch in the afternoon at Arches, completing the Mighty Five national parks of Utah.
On our fifth day, we find ourselves in four places at once when we visit the Four Corners. We try some tasty fry bread tacos for lunch. Then we head to Valley of the Gods and Monument Valley for some more incredible scenery.
Our sixth day is spent watching the sun rise over Monument Valley. Afterwards, we drive to Horseshoe Bend and enjoy delicious fried chicken in Page, Arizona. In the evening, we make it to the Grand Canyon!
On the final day of our road trip, we wake up before sunrise to hike the South Kaibab Trail at Grand Canyon National Park, and it is so worth it, even if it’s a bit slippery in winter! After we leave Grand Canyon National Park, we head over to Grand Canyon West and check out the Skywalk before heading back to Las Vegas.
We ended our trip with dinner and gelato from Eataly, a perfect way to wrap things up!
We hope you enjoy coming along on our adventures!
