In 1941, Leningrad – the beautiful, thriving city on the Neva River – was under siege by the Soviet Union. For more than 800 days, the city was bombarded by the German army, and Leningrad's residents faced an unimaginable terror.
But the city never gave up. Despite starvation, illness, and the constant threat of death, the city's residents refused to be subdued. They kept their faith in their leader, Stalin, and in themselves.
