In TextEdit on a Mac, there is a keyboard shortcut to typing straight quotes as opposed to curly "Smart" quotes.
Transcript:
So, in TextEdit, it automatically gives you smart quotes. That's something you can get rid of in Preferences if I go here turn it on and off. I'm gonna leave it on because I do like smart quotes occasionally. So, let me just type in a quick quote, something simple... So if I want to do straight quotes but I don't want to turn off the Preferences, the quick way of doing that is, say I want to do a single straight quote I do Control + Quote (') or if I want to do two quotes, I do Shift + control + quote ('). Now, again if I wanted to I can try this off in preferences it just depends on what your necessity is but I find I like having that option, that keyboard shortcut option, so that way I can customize things better.
