Ducati eliminates the Panigale 959, updating the platform and renaming it the Panigale V2. The new model represents the resurrection of Ducati's V-twin engine platform that dared to challenge the best four cylinders in superbike competition with enormous potential and success.
Last year taps were played for the big-bore Ducati V-twin, the Panigale 1299, because of tightening emissions standards and the Bologna manufacturer’s move to a V-4 platform. Panigale lovers were left with the 959, which many viewed as a second choice. Now the Panigale V2 sets things back in proper line.
Engine displacement remains 955cc—with a 100.0mm by 60.8mm bore and stroke—but has been wisely updated to conform with Euro 5 emissions standards. Despite the revisions, Ducati claims to have gained an additional 5 hp, bumping claimed output to 155 hp at 10,750 rpm and 76.7 pound-feet of torque at 9,000 rpm.
