Brad Hubbard is a Civil Engineer and Founder of National Flood Experts, a company that specializes in helping home and business owners remove flood insurance premiums from their properties.
In this interview, Brad explains how approximately 50% of the flood maps are incorrect and how flood zones are assessed at a community level, not an individual property level. This allows for many owners to challenge the findings and show FEMA that their property is above the base flood elevation level. Through a simple process, Brad explains how they oftentimes can advise you by just reviewing a survey and then submitting the proper application to FEMA for removal of the requirement given the property is found to be above the base flood elevation.
Brad and Jamie also share an informative discussion on how the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) works and some of the problems inherent in its design and administration. Homeowners in low lying areas need to be aware of proposed changes that are on the horizon that could affect their premiums greatly and we learn about the different flood zones and raise awareness for homeowners to ask these types of questions when buying a home.
