Turkish President Erdogan responded to a question posed by a Turkish youth about his stance on Syrian refugees on Thursday.
The question was raised during a programme in which Turkish youths were able to ask the president about their concerns ahead of Turkey’s elections this Sunday. Several sensitive matters were addressed, although it was later revealed that some of the youths asking questions were active members of the Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) youth organisations.
Turkey hosts an estimated four million Syrian refugees, which has become a sensitive topic amid a cost-of-living and housing crisis, and the country has seen an increase in xenophobic rhetoric and attacks on refugees.
Various opposition parties have called for the refugees to be deported back to Syria and promised to do this if they win Sunday’s elections
