Hey everyone! Today I share my five tips for new guinea pig owners. This is not in-depth in any way and is just a brief overview of the things I think are helpful to know when considering or owning guinea pigs.

#1: Join a guinea pig Facebook group! Or two! Be warned you will receive some conflicting information about guinea pig care, but they are a great resource for learning more in order to help you make informed decisions about your care. Here are the ones I am a member of:

#2: Learn about guinea pig health issues!

#3 Don't expect your piggies to love you right away. It takes time. Be patient, try hand-feeding them veggies and holding them for lap time. When they first get to your home, leave them alone for a day or two before attempting to build a bond.

#4 Practice basic piggie care! Do the basics, then you can worry about enrichment and the rest later. Taking care of piggies can seem overwhelming at first, so start with food and habitat. Is their cage big enough? 8 to 10 square feet is the recommended minimum for two piggies. Feed them pellets, unlimited hay, and one cup of veggies per pig per day. #5 Care about your piggies! Care about their health and wellbeing, and expect to take some criticism. Most people mean well and are just caring for your piggies the way you care about them. Care about their quality of life, and this will lead you to research and help you accept constructive criticism and improve in your care journey. Best of luck!

⭐ What do I feed my guinea pigs?
I feed my piggies oxbow adult pellets, 2nd cutting timothy hay from small pet select, and a variety of vegetables. I feed sweet peppers every day and rotate romaine lettuce, red and green leaf lettuce, cilantro, and parsley. I feed the occasional carrot, cucumber, and strawberry. I also supplement with oxbow vitamin c supplements and oxbow digestive support.

⭐ What do I use to edit my videos and make my thumbnails?
I edit with Adobe Premiere Pro, and use the apps Phonto, PicsArt, and Lightroom on my phone for thumbnails and overlays.
