If a power outage lats to long it could wipe out your saltwater reef tank aquarium... its not the power outage itself thats the issue..but the lack of flow and gas exchange. A tank packed full of fish can quickly use up the oxygen in the water.. Adding a battery operated air pump is likely your cheapest option. If you have the supplies i would strongly recommend hooking up a battery backup to a single wave maker to help provide oxygen to your tank. You will want to ensure the wave maker agitates the surface to promote gas exchange.
If you love in a hot climent you may also have to consider cooling your tank. it may be wise to stock up on RODI ice cubes.
if you know your leaving STOP feeding your fish, no last meals as it will just pollute the tank and fowl the water quicker. your fish will be OK with out food for a few days or a week if need be.
