Hey everyone! In this video series entitled Teacher Lingo 101 I give basic explanations for key words every EFL instructor needs to know. In this episode we look at the term Eliciting.
Eliciting refers to the practice of getting information from the students directly during the lesson. That way the teacher is not feeding the answers, context or examples to the students, but rather the students are being creative and using their own answers and ideas in the lesson. The lesson therefore becomes much more engaging and meaningful for the language learners present in the class. Let me also point out that eliciting can be done during many different stages of the lesson and may include getting the students to predict, brainstorm, or identify information during the class.
If you have more questions on teacher lingo or if you are already an English language instructor and have your own lingo, classroom tips or tricks to share, please leave them in the comment section below.
