The first-year quad is a focal point of underclassmen culture. Norton, Gund, and Lewis Halls, the three buildings housing first-year students, form a "U" shape, framing an open, grassy area strewn with trees, benches, picnic tables, and Adirondack chairs. All three buildings are co-ed. All first-year residence halls are smoke-free and alcohol-free living areas.
Situated in a community of peers, Norton, Gund, and Lewis residents know that everyone in their living space experiences the particular concerns, confusion, and celebrations of first-year students. Early and long-lasting friendships deepen as residents share rites of passage in their adjustment to college life. Additional first-year housing can be found in Mather and McBride Halls.
