Tips:
- Break down the dry chunks/scraps of clay you want to recycle into small pieces and add to water. Helps with the disintegration process faster.
- Be careful to not add any pins or sharp objects in with the clay.
- Drain out as much water as possible. Once you filter out the water, make sure you give the clay a good mix.The consistency should be thick and lump free. You can use an old hand whisk for easier mixing. Please keep it only for clay purpose. Do not re-use the whisk for cooking.
- When you lay out the thick slurry of clay on your wood work board or POP board don't spread it thin. Let it be thick approx 1 or 2 inches thick.
- I left the clay in the bucket for more than 24 hours. I leave it sometimes for even 3 days to a week.
- The thick clay slurry was left on the board for more than 12 to 13 hours. But this will vary as the slurry can differ in consistency. I had to reclaim another big batch of clay and I had to leave that on my board for 2 full days. The climate and consistency of the clay slurry makes a big difference.
- Please keep checking your clay every few hours.
- The entire process can take about 3 days to a week or more. You can always leave the clay in the bucket for longer. Soaking time is good, it helps with aging the clay.
- But once the clay slurry is on board please keep a regular check so that it doesn't dry out.
