Lausanne, Switzerland - 1998 Junior Grand Prix Finals, Figure Skating, Men's Free Skate - Timothy Goebel of the United States became the first man to successfully land a quadruple Salchow, and in particularly, a quad Salchow in combination. He also became the first American male skater to land a quadruple jump. This was so unexpected that the ISU did not film the competition. Instead, the ISU had to rely on a home video recording in order to properly ratify the jump.
