Is "The Strid" the deadliest stretch of water in the world?
The Strid on Bolton Abbey estate has a reputation as one of the world's deadliest stretches of water.
Relatively calm and unassuming on the service, due to a pinch point in the river, this thin body of water is a deadly killer.
Immortalised in a poem by William Wordsworth in the early 1800s. Wordsworth tells us of a boy who tried to jump the stream, but sadly falls in. Also described as
"no lonelier place in England by Gertrude Atherton in 1896.
It's clear The Strid has been haunting locals for a long time.
