78 years ago on 8 May 1945 was VE Day (Victory in Europe Day).
The letter 'V' was used 3 times to start and end transmissions sent on this monumental day.

The device reading this Morse slip paper is part of a Wheatstone system, which is an automated telegraph system. This system would also have a perforator machine that would convert letters into Morse and punch these holes into the slip that is being read. The perforator looks similar to a typewriter.

Machines like this would have been in use at Bletchley Park during World War Two, in buildings like Block E.
