In this video I'm going over how I cut the frame back behind the front wheels of our 2007 4wd 4Runner to create a bit more clearance for our 33" Falken 285s.
I was a bit apprehensive at first cutting into the frame but it wasn't a big deal. I think anyone can do this with a bit of patience and the right tools.
As we were pretty close to the front of the vehicle I decided to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, just like I did when I welded the rock sliders into the vehicle.
Once the plate was welded in I painted it with a rust oleum primer and then a coat of rust oleum enamel. As I was coating some bumpers I also sprayed the area with some Raptor Liner Berliner which gave it a nice durable finish. I subsequently cut the fender back about an inch on each side of the truck. As we were going downhill and turning sharply the rear of the tire was catching one of the bolt heads in the fender. Moving it back solved that problem. I used some 1/8" rubber to cover off the area to keep mud etc from getting up in behind the fender.
Thanks for watching
