Car renting in Korea can be intimidating at first. Being in a land where you don't know the language and even the letters look different. But the process is actually really straightforward.
What you need:
1. International driving license
2. Your original driving license (some companies want you to have had the license for 1 or more years before renting a car in Korea)
3. Car booking
4. When picking up the car ask the personnel to help you it can be less stressful than figuring out the automatic registration booths
What you should do:
1. Check the car for any damage and take photos or videos of them before heading out.
2. Check how much fuel is in the car and take a photo of the cage. You need to bring the car back with the exact same amount. Alternatively, you can pay later and let the rental company fill the car themselves. But this might be more expensive.
3. Ask you if they have a satnav. Usually, all the cars in Korea have it, but it is in Korean, although I did not feel any restrictions with the language difference.
4. Most cars in Korea are automatic. Makes driving much easier.
I recommend getting a smaller car as parking can be hard to find and many of the Korean streets are narrow.
We rented our car in Jeju. You need to have a car on Jeju island to fully enjoy all the sights and not be so restricted.
