This video talks about different surgical options for lung cancer. Thoracic lobectomy is a surgical procedure to remove one of the lobes from the lung. Different surgical options for tissue removal includes; Wedge Resection- removal of small portion of lung (where the tumor exists), Segmentectomy- removal of a segment of the lung or larger piece of lung tissue, Lobectomy- removal of one lobe of the lung and Pneumonectomy- removal of all the lobes of one lung. performing of lobectomy can be done in two ways; Open Surgery and Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS). VATS is considered minimally invasive as it has minimal incisions. These surgeries do include few risks and complications like bleeding, pneumonia ,etc. It is important to consult your doctor to fully understand which procedure might be best for you.
