The ai speaker has got it all: it's a bluetooth and wifi enabled smart speaker that's capable of all the expected things like taking notes, doing calculations and conversions, setting timers and reminders etc...
But this speaker can also control most of the Wifi and Zigbee enabled smart home products from the Mi Home ecosystem. Right now it's capable of controlling lights, smart sockets, air-conditioners, air purifiers and a few more products. Over time you can expect it to support the whole range of Xiaomi's smart home products.
To my surprise the audio quality was much better than I had expected from this size speaker. It's actually a pretty decent speaker to play music with. It seems that it's possible to pair multiple speakers to the Mi Ai APP, so it looks like you would be able to play music on multiple speakers. (I have not tested this out as I just have one speaker.)
The main downside for international users at the moment is that the speaker is only capable of understanding and speaking Mandarin. You can wake it up by saying "Xiao Ai Tong Xue", but this might be quite difficult to interact with. As China is the main market for Xiaomi, as the majority of their smart home products are officially only supported in China as well. -I highly doubt that the Google and Amazon speakers are really targeted towards China, so in that sense it is a really smart move for Xiaomi.
I really do hope that Xiaomi intends to release this speaker internationally and that it will learn new languages, but up to today there is no sign of this being released any time soon...
