More research supports the importance of exercise.
A study using data from the UK Biobank suggested a potential link between lean body mass and a lower risk of Alzheimer's disease.
By using genetic data from over 450,000 Biobank participants, scientists found that a genetically determined increase in lean mass correlated with a 12% reduced Alzheimer's risk.
This was replicated in other patient cohorts also and showed a positive association with cognitive performance.
These findings suggest that lean body mass could be a modifiable protective factor against Alzheimer's. However, further research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms involved.
