Canada's chief public health officer Dr. Theresa Tam discussed on Friday the challenges Canadians will be facing during the fall and winter seasons ahead of Labour Day long weekend that marks the official end of summer in Canada.

"Canada faces a different COVID- 19 situation in September than it did in February and March," she said.

Dr. Tam said individuals need to ask themselves serious questions on the risk they're taking and the risk they might be exposing others to when making decisions on attending indoor events.

She urged people to carefully evaluate whether it's safe to gather together indoors and the consequences of those gathering as the country head into the fall and winter.

" It is important to remember that just because you know the people at an event outside your household and contact bubble, it does not mean the risk is in any way reduced." She added.

A total of 130,493 cases of COVID-19 have been reported as of Friday, including 9,141 deaths and 88.5 per cent recoveries.

Nearly 46,000 people were tested daily over the past week, with 0.9 per cent of them testing positive.
