What's up y'all here's a tutorial on how and why I use the Digitakt / Octatrack together. I come from an Akai MPC background, layering drums is a technique that has been used in Hip Hop production for many decades.
It's great for fattening up kicks and snares by layering 2 or more samples triggered on a single pad. The Elektron doesn't have this feature, but there are a few different ways to achieve similar results, and even take it a step further. I like using the Digitakt for one-shot samples to reinforce drums and rhythmic elements that are on the Octatrack. I mostly sample drum loops from the machine drum or other drum machines to use in the octatrack because I don't like using a lot of individuals tracks on the OT to have one shots taking up all that awesome sampling power. I have 1 OT track for the drum loop, 1 track for the digitakt drums, 1 track dedicated to the master, and the other tracks on the Octatrack free for sampling my modular, vinyl, synths etc.
Here's what's going on technically:
*Octarack midi out to Digitakt midi in
*Digitakt L R out to Octatrack A/B in
*Digitakt processed via thru machine
A few of my drum loop / one-shot sound packs are available at:

Thanks a lot for the support!
