STORYLINE:
Women in Iraq, who lost their relatives under Saddam Hussein's regime, have gathered to mourn their dead.
While some women knew their relatives were killed in prison, the majority of them only got confirmation that their loved ones were dead after the regime fell in April.
The scale of the executions became apparent after the US-led invasion, when locals began to unearth a number of mass graves.
One of the mourners, Um Ahmed, who lost friends under Saddam's rule, said the women had not been given the opportunity to mourn their menfolk, but now were free to "do anything to remember their fathers and their grandfathers."
The women say they intend their commemoration to be an annual event.
