Narcissists dont know they are mean, or do they? If you have ever been treated poorly by the narcissist then you know that narcissists act like nothing happened when you get upset with their behaviors. Narcissists pretend like nothing happened to keep in control of the situation. The narcissist, or someone with narcissistic personality disorder (npd), is unable to take responsibility for actions because this exposes them to shame and then they are prone to narcissistic injury. The narcissist will blame shift and deflect as a way to avoid taking responsibility. They will never admit fault and this is why narcissists act like nothing happened. This is narcissistic abuse and a form of emotional abuse. If you think the narcissist doesnt care about me after a fight because they blame you for everything, this is probably when the narcissist is trying to pretend like nothing happened. Remember, it is not about you. It is about the person with narcissism and what need they feel they are not getting met at that time. The narcissist doesnt care about you if it will somehow make them feel worse about themselves. The narcissist only cares about what they need. Why narcissists don’t care is because they dont have empathy and cant care about you and what you are going through. Due to their lack of empathy, they can’t understand why you are upset and what you would be hurt about. So, why do narcissists pretend to care sometimes? Again, it is about them. They pretend to care because they think it will benefit them. This is why a relationship with a narcissist is a toxic relationship. Narcissists are clueless in how they affect others due to their lack of empathy. Will a narcissist change for someone else? Only if they feel like they need to and that it will benefit them in some way. Narcissists are fake and always will be. They change what they need in the moment based on their unstable senses of self and nothing is permanent with them. Narcissists who are fake nice only act that way to bring you in, such as during love bombing. Don’t be fooled by the narcissist, or hurt by their manipulation. Look out for your own mental health. If you can’t leave the narcissist, then do your best to get away for a brief reprieve when you can.
