A quick scenic drive from Sea point via Chapmans peak gets us to Simons town home to one of only two African penguin land colonies on the continent. You will only find African penguins in South Africa and Namibia. Nowhere else in Africa.

Boulders beach, home of the penguins is open to visitors and you can spend the day lounging on the beach, climbing the massive granite boulders and bathing in the sun whilst African penguins swim and run playfully around you. It truly is an unique experience in the area.

Boulders beach and the penguin colony are separated by two different access gates, but your daily ticket provides access to both. Ticket prices are tiered:

South Africans: R40.00
SADC visitors: R85.00
All other visitors: R170.00
Children pay 1/2 price of the applicable rate.

The beach and colony is open from 0800-1700 (I was told from 0900 by the lady at the ticket office).

It is an easy and scenic self drive from Cape Town to Simons Town. Alternatively, you can take the train, Uber (about US$25-30 one way) or a tour. There are many.
