At 14 weeks, we do urine analysis as part of prenatal care, usually to check for infection. So when there is presence of albumin or sugar, then we should think of preexisting disease. For sugar, preexisting diabetes, for albumin, preexisting kidney disease. For pregnancy related complications like pregnancy induced hypertension, and gestational diabetes usually happen at 20 weeks of gestation rather than at 14 weeks. Sugars in the urine does not always indicate diabetes. Following heavy meals or drinks, sugars in the blood stream can leak into urine by using slight sugar in the urine. So slight sugar and albumin in the urine at 14 weeks, should not be of much concern.
