【Pls look at the top comment first】This video was made on 1st July 2024. Review Canadian aor gem on Canada Day.
Von Groove is a memorable hard rock band from Ontario, Canada. As a name of the past, the songs by Von Groove have spread among a loyal fan base. Formed in 1990, the active years of Von Groove were just past the final period of hard rock explosion, their albums in the past decades are always the indispensable collections for both hard rock and aor fans.
Among all the trios on the hard rock scene, Von Groove is a notable name. This album "The Seventh Day" was released in 2001 by Z Records. Among all the albums of Von Groove, this album is underrated and rarely mentioned, but it is a memorable release, which means to the band as well as to Von Groove's fans, because this is the last studio album of the band for fans, featuring a different line-up on recording. This line-up only appeared in "The Seventh Day", featuring a new member Tom Lewis on bass. Incredibly, "The Seventh Day" was made in Czech Republic. Three tracks were mixed by Bruno Mambella and Michael Shotton at Underground Sound, a recording studio in Canada related to vocalist Michael Shotton. From the personnel, we can see frontman Michael Shotton played multiple roles in the band.
The album icon was designed in the same style as Von Groove's 1992 debut. This is the band's symbol for fans to remember those glorious days when Von Groove hit the Canadian hard rock scene in 1992. Their ST debut saw the birth of Von Groove become a Canadian hard rock icon in the 1990s and the glorious years when the band hit fans with their greatest music works.
The beginning of Von Groove was in a tough year when grunge was booming, but the band didn't quit creating and performing. After a superb debut which I think is the most impressive album by the band, Von Groove continued putting out several studio albums and single EPs in the following years. Good music can finally promote itself. After so many years, their epic singles are still the desirable collections on hard/melodic rock.
The early 1990s saw Von Groove as a part of hair metal troop, consisting of three long-haired rockers. They played hair metal and focused on good melodies. Their debut is impeccable, including all the brilliant songs as blessings for ears. The tunes are flaming and melodious, that is the big charm of Von Groove. Although they tried some changes in the style of the second album "Rainmaker (1994)", which was a controversial release with their fan base, Von Groove got back to their melodic hard rock roots in the third album "Mission Man (1997)".
They kept their music works being tuneful until the last album "The Seventh Day". Each album contains impressive tunes which can make whoever listens to the band fall in love with their music. In several following albums after the debut, they played lots of aor gems for whoever loves beautiful tunes of melodic rock.
Musically, many songs from "The Seventh Day" are solid and flaming, but the addictive tunes on each track were never overlooked by the band. They were best at combining hard rock with aor. Compared to the debut, this album, as a relatively new release in the noughties onwards, features many groovy and modern sounds. Former bassist Matthew Gerrard wrote one song for this album, the only release where he didn't play.
In 2015, "The Seventh Day" was reissued plus three bonus tracks, one of which is this vibrant aor gem "I Can't Stop Loving You". This song really stands out from the album, which more or less features a nostalgic taste in its tunes. Among most of their solid hard rock works, this pure aor gem sounds soothing and laid-back, carrying a pleasant moment for every delicate ear.
Besides, "Lity", "Oxygen", "LifeLine", "The Best In Me (ballad)", "Heaven Knows Your Name (ballad)", "Live It Up (Bonus Track)" and "Runaway Angel (Bonus Track)" are highly recommended from this album. Though the full-length doesn't contain lead singles which were separately released, this album simply presented a brand new look of Von Groovy in the 21st century.
A legendary and memorable band like Von Groove started impressively and ended amazingly. "The Seventh Day" is a good ending for the band. In the following years, although there is no more new work from Von Groove, Michael Shotton and Mladen Alexander continued performing on stage. In 2002, Mladen Alexander and Rob Moratti formed a new aor band "Final Frontier", keeping aor continue and spread in the following years of the noughties onwards.
