Why do I install bees into logs? My number 1 reason is that the core temperature in a log remains more even. I have an attic bedroom with zero air conditioning. It's a perfect example of what's going on inside a hive. The attic space is almost unlivable during the summer unless you want to lose 20lbs and pass out in the process. In the winter the furnace has to be full blast.
Under intense heat or cold from the outside the internal core temperature of the log does not change much. Whatever temperature the bees decide thats where its going to stay. Using man made boxes temperatures can drastically swing inside the hive and the hive struggles to deal with it effectively.
Give the honey bees a break and consider logs as hives - the real colony guard.
Cheers!
