With the OPTISYS SLM 2100, KROHNE offers an optical sludge level measurement system. The sludge level is measured by passing the sensor down through the individual layers in the tank.
The sensor is lowered right to the bottom of the tank. All the different sludge phases are detected and an accurate concentration profile and sludge level measurement is obtained. In contrast to permanently installed measuring devices based on ultrasonic techniques, there is no interference from sludge clouds or diffuse sludge layers.
The customer can choose from several measuring modes according to the application. In addition to a profile measurement, in which the entire basin is traversed, zone tracking, for example, is possible. The sensor detects the sludge level and remains in the relevant area. The rise of the sludge to the desired level can be tracked directly and in real time.
This high flexibility in combination with the robust device construction is especially appreciated by sewage plant operators. To simplify the installation on scraper bridges, the measured values can be transmitted wirelessly to the control system. Additionally, an integrated heating system prevents freezing even at temperatures significantly below zero.
The maintenance effort required can be considerably reduced by an optional cleaning unit. This frees the sensor and the cable from any dirt coatings, and so ensures reliable measurement values over an extended period.
Continuous sludge level measurement is also popular in many other industries, such as potable water treatment and mining. By avoiding disturbing influences, pumps can be reliably controlled and processes regulated by means of optical monitoring.
