Fans were urged to evacuate a game at Utilita Arena in Sheffield between the Nottingham Panthers and the Sheffield Steelers after forward Adam Johnson was injured during the freak accident.

Johnson, aged 29, was believed to have taken a skate to his throat.The hockey world was shaken today when former Penguin Adam Johnson was struck in the neck by a skate and the arena was evacuated.

Johnson's Horrifying Injury Revealed

A skate blade hitting the neck of a player is truly terrifying.

Adam Johnson, a current player in the EIHL and a former Pittsburgh Penguins was struck and the arena was evacuated.The injuries were reportedly so gruesome the game had to be abandoned and traumatised fans were left in tears.

Footage posted to social media shows an opposition player taking a hit, causing his leg to fly out into the air.

Johnson was an import to the UK from the USA where he played in the National Hockey League.

The Nottingham Panthers confirmed his death on Sunday morning in the UK.

They wrote in a statement that they were “truly devastated to announce that Adam Johnson has tragically passed away following a freak accident at the game in Sheffield last night”.

“Our thoughts are also with the fans and staff of both clubs, especially those who attended or were following the game, who will be devastated following today’s news.Johnson falls to the ground and tries to get to his feet before falling again.

The referee helps Johnson to his skates, and a teammate holds his bleeding throat as they skate off the ice.Adam, our number 47, was not only an outstanding ice hockey player, but also a great teammate and an incredible person with his whole life ahead of him.

“The Club will dearly miss him and never ever forget him.”

His mother Kari posted a photo of her and her son on social media writing: “I lost half of my heart today. Love you always Munch.”match describing the absolute horror of the situation.

“That was undoubtedly the worst thing I’ve ever seen happen,” @cazwalker13 wrote.

“Stuff of nightmares at the panthers game tonight, praying for Adam Johnson,” @ItsYaGirlEllie_ wrote.
