In this lesson I outline two techniques you can use. The first is reliant on understanding something called chord tones which are the root, 3rd, 5th and 7th of any chord. Once the chord tones are under your fingers you can move onto applying the rhythmic techniques I discuss in this lesson one of which is the idea of picking one note which can be any chord tone and playing a simple rhythm on just that note. This helps to create a fill that brings in other chord tones which aren't the root.
