Sinus tachycardia is a cardiac arrhythmia characterized by a faster than normal heart rate (tachycardia) originating from the sinus node, which is the heart's natural pacemaker. In this condition, the heart rate exceeds the normal range of 60 to 100 beats per minute at rest, and it typically increases in response to physiological or psychological stressors. Sinus tachycardia can occur as a natural response to various factors such as exercise, fever, pain, anxiety, or certain medications. While it is usually a temporary and benign condition, persistent or excessive tachycardia may lead to symptoms such as palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, or chest discomfort. On the ECG it is usually differentiable from a normal sinus rhythm only by the increased heart rate!
