Why narcissists don’t like boundaries is because the narcissist doesn’t like to be told what to do. Why narcissists don’t respect boundaries is because they think they are superior and grandiose and don’t need to listen to anymore. The narcissist is self-centered and the world revolves around them. Do narcissists know they are manipulating and gaslighting? Yes, to a point. They know that they act in a way to get what they want and because they lack empathy they don’t care. Setting boundaries with a narcissist can trigger narcissistic rage but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t set the boundary. Narcissists don’t listen but you should still be in control or your own life. Narcissists are manipulative and when you don’t respond to a narcissist you take the control from them. Setting boundaries with narcissists is needed to stop the toxic relationship.
