Niloofar Rahmani is the first female fixed-wing Air Force aviator in Afghanistan's history. Her personal story, and that of her family, is a story of survival and perseverance to achieve her dreams in spite of nearly insurmountable odds.
Her book, “Open Skies: My Life as Afghanistan's First Female Pilot” chronicles her journey and provides a unique and personal perspective on life under Taliban rule and the transformation that happened with the arrival of United States forces in 2001. From living in a tent in a Pakistani refugee camp, to the cockpit of C130 and being awarded the International Women of Courage Award, Niloofar’s journey is an epic tale of fighting against the odds for freedom and equality.
