One of the most important kits in your larger survival system is your PFK ("Personal Fire Kit"). It is not necessary that your PFK be geared toward long-term survival; rather, it should provide you with the materials necessary to start a fire in any weather condition at least 3 times. This will allow you to have a fire to make charred material: charred cloth, punkwood, bark, etc. With a high carbon knife and a piece of flint/quartz, you should be able to create fires whenever the need arises utilizing your charred material of choice (or necessity) and dry tinder.
