The Cuban Revolution in One Minute
The Cuban Revolution was a political and social revolution that took place in Cuba from 1953 to 1959. It was led by Fidel Castro and his 26th of July Movement, who sought to overthrow the dictatorship of President Fulgencio Batista. The revolution started with small-scale attacks and uprisings, but gained momentum after the landing of the Granma, a yacht carrying Fidel Castro and 80 other rebels, in 1956. The rebels fought against Batista's forces in the mountains and gradually gained control of large parts of the country. In 1958, the revolution reached its peak as Batista fled Cuba, and the rebels entered Havana, the capital city. The revolution brought significant changes to Cuban society, including the nationalization of industries, land reform, and the implementation of social programs. The revolution also had international ramifications, as Cuba became a symbol of resistance against imperialism and capitalism.
