One giant ocean liner is sunk...4 persons are dead...more are injured....but most important, some 1700 persons have been rescued following a mid-Atlantic collision by 2 ships off the coast of Massachussetts.
The pride of the Italian Merchant Marine...the almost brand new Andria Doria..now lies in 225 feet of murky waters in an area known as the graveyard of the Atlantic. She sank at 9 minutes past 10 this morning, less than a dozen hours after colliding in a fog with the Swedish liner Stockholm.
