One of the most complaint conditions we see frequently is dark circles in the under-eye area. One of the most common causes is due to lifestyle behaviors such as insufficient sleep, allergies, stress, and many others. Lack of sleep increases venous congestion, leading to fluid build-up which leads to pooled blood in the superficial blood vessels, resulting in dark circles look even darker when you’re tired.
The facial feature also plays a role in casting a shadowing effect, making the dark circles even darker especially when you have a prominent “tear trough” or cheekbone. As we age, the trough can appear or deepen with fat loss which causes us to look even more tired and our eye circles even more visible.
