The Beyond Your clothes is a non-profit campaign initiated by the EU, that had for main objective to raise awareness on the detrimental consequences of the fast fashion industry.
The phase 2 of the campaign consisted on sharing alternatives that can help resorbing our clothes environmental impact.
Pineapple leaves are the new vegan alternative to leather. For many years the Spanish designer Carmen Hijosa has been developed her natural leather that consists solely of pineapple leaves. The leaves of the pineapples that are used instead of going to waste. Those are then taken to a textile factory in Barcelona and are processed into this leather alternative. Waste products such as biomass can even be used as fertilizer or biogas.
